Updated In February, 2012 - Every poker room offers freeroll tournaments. Unlike the free holdem poker sitngos, these only run at certain times so you won't be able to play in hundreds/day. Any time you can play Holdem poker for free with a chance to win money is a good time in my book. Once again Gr88 Poker is an excellent room for this. Every couple hours they run a $200 freeroll tournament. Prizes for these range from $2.20 to over $50. Full Tilt Poker and Pokerstars also run many freerolls per day with prize pools ranging from $500 to over $100,000. They also host many that offer seats to huge real money tournaments instead of cash. I won a freeroll at Pokerstars a few months back that awarded me a ticket to one of their weekly $215 buyin tournaments. I busted out early but the guaranteed prize pool was $100,000. Had I won, I wouldn't be writing this article right now. I'd be in the Bahamas or something. If you are looking for a quick solution to winning free poker money in much less time read our Sitngo freeroll guide below.
Yes, but I won't lie to you it will be tough. Freeroll tournaments have large player pools but if you play good it's quite easy to win. The reason for this is simple. If a freeroll has 1,000 registered players only around 50-60% of them will actually play in it. Many times people signup earlier in the week or day and either forget or just decide not to play. So out of the 1,000 players only around 550 are actually playing. Of this 550, around 300 will be knocked out in the first 10 minutes. If you've ever played in a freeroll you will have noticed that most players just got all-in with any hand. Around 25% of the active players will be knocked out on the first hand!
The fact that there are a lot of non-active players benefits you in more than just the free chips. It also means that the prize pool will be spread out to more players. All you need to do is only play hands like AA, KK, QQ and AK for the first hour and you should win money in 30-40% of the freerolls you play in.
Chris Ferguson is a professional poker player who plays at Full Tilt Poker. In 2007 he accepted the challenge of turning $0 into $10,000. He started playing in Holdem poker freerolls and quickly built up a bankroll large enough to play at the micro-stakes ring tables and in 7 months he had turned $0 into $10,000. He didn't stop there though. His bankroll is currently over $100,000. Take a look at the image below if you need any inspiration.
